Doodle Duel

Note (Lindberg Studios Recommended Rule): For the best experience, defeated Character cards are kept by the player who wins them. This turns the game into a true Trading Card Game—encouraging rematches to try and win back lost cards or grow your collection even more.

Needed for this Game:

  • 2 Regular dice (d6)

  • Gooblurs cards

  • HP tracker - for tracking characters health (optional (recommended)

  • Pen & Paper - for tracking characters health (optional (recommended)

How to Play — OFFICIAL RULES

👥 PLAYERS - 2 Players

🎯 OBJECTIVE

Win the game by either:

  • 💥 Defeating your opponent’s Boss (300 HP)

    OR

  • 🏆 Defeating 3 enemy Characters (100 HP each)

🧩 SETUP

Each player builds a 52-card deck:

  • At least 24 Doodle Cards (currency)

  • At least 6 Character Cards (heroes)

Start the game:

  1. Shuffle your deck

  2. Choose 1 Character as your Boss

  3. Place your Boss on the Battlefield

  4. Boss starts with 300 HP

👑 BOSS RULE

  • Your Boss is always in play

  • If your Boss has no other Active Characters protecting it on the Battlefield:

    → It takes DOUBLE DAMAGE (ie opponent rolls a 2=4, 5=10, 6=12, etc.)

DOODLE CARDS

Doodles are used to:

  • Summon Characters

  • Attack

  • Defend

  • Create Shields

  • Each Doodle Card = 1 Doodle

  • Doodles can only be spent from the bank, not from the players hand.

CHARACTER CARDS

  • These are your heroes

Characters are used to:

  • Attack opponent

  • Defend from opponent

🔁 HOW A TURN WORKS

Each round follows this order:

1. Prep → 2. Reveal, Bank, & Bench → 3. Field, & Shield → 4. Battle

🃏 1. PREP

  • Both players places 1–4 cards face-down

  • Cards can be a mix of:

    • Doodle Cards

    • Character Cards

👀 2. REVEAL, BANK, & BENCH

Both players: 

  • Reveal cards placed cards at the same time

  • Move any revealed doodle cards to their bank.

  • Move any revealed character cards to their bench.

⚔️ 3. FIELD, & SHIELD

Both players use Doodle cards to: 

  • Activate Characters, and/or Apply Shields.

🧍 Battlefield (Activate Characters)

  • To make a Character Active:

    → Spend 3 Doodles

  • Characters on the Battlefield can attack, and be attacked

Note:

  • Max of 5 Active Characters per playerallowedon Battlefield at once

  • If Battlefield is full: any new Characters go to the Bench

🪑 Bench (Inactive Characters)

  • Characters you have not activated yet go here

  • Characters on the bench cannot attack, nor be attacked

Note:

  • To activate a Character, spend 3 Doodles and move character to the Battlefield

🛡 SHIELDS (Before Battle)

  • Give a Character a Shield:

    → Cost: 2 Doodles

How it works:

  • Place 1st Doodle card underneath desired Character card (stack in a way where the doodle card “now shield” is exposed and can visibly be seen by players)

  • Return the other doodle card to hand

Effect:

  • Now when that shielded Character takes damage:

    → Negate ALL damage from attack

    → Shields are only good to receive one attack though.  Once a Character with a shield has been attacked one time, remove the Shield (doodle card) and return to hand.  

Note:

  • Shields can be given to active or inactive character cards

⚔️ 4. BATTLE

  • Players alternate who attacks first each round.

  • If a player attacks first in one round, the other player will attack first in the next round. 

  • This continues back and forth every round.

✔️ Each round includes both players take turns to attack, ensuring everyone gets a chance to play offense and defense.

🎯 To Attack

Attacking Player must spend 1 Doodle card per attack (dice roll).

🎯 When Attacking

Player selects:

  • 1 Active Character or Boss (to attack with)

AND

  • 1 Active Character or Boss of opponents (target)

🎲 Attack Roll

  • Attacker Rolls 2 dice

  • Cost: 1 Doodle per roll

🛡 Defense

Defender may spend Doodles when being attacked:

  • Each Doodle heals -2 damage

  • The Defender may reduce damage up to the full amount of the current attack

  • Any healing beyond the attack’s damage is wasted (it does not carry over or provide extra benefit)

Example:
If an attack deals 11 damage, the Defender may spend Doodles to reduce up to 11 damage. If they spend more than needed, the extra healing is lost.

☠️ Damage Resolution

  • Apply remaining damage

  • If Shielded:

    → No damage

    → Remove Shield

  • If a Character reaches 0 HP:

    → It is defeated

    → Opponent keeps the fallen card (Lindberg Studios recommended way to play)

🔁 AFTER A CHARACTER IS DEFEATED

  • You may immediately activate a Benched Character

    → Cost: 2 Doodles

🔄 CONTINUE PLAY

Repeat turns until a win condition is met.

  1. Play cards face-down

  2. Reveal, Bank, & Bench

  3. Field & Shield

    -(Spend Doodles to build your team)

  4. Battle

  5. First to beat the Boss or 3 Characters wins
